We demonstrate the fabrication, by exclusive means of inkjet-printing, of capacitive relative humidity sensors on flexible, plastic substrate. These sensors can be successfully used for the measurement of relative-humidity in both air and common soil. We also show that the same technique may be used for the fabrication of the same type of sensors on the surface of the leaves of Elægnus Ebbingei (silverberry). Our results demonstrate the suitability of leaves as substrate for printed electronics and pave the way to the next generation of sensors to be used in fields such as agriculture and flower farming.

Inflammation mediates several chronic diseases. Micronutrients can act on inflammation, either through modulating cytokine production or by scavenging by-products of activated white cells. Identifying dietary patterns (DP) reflecting these mechanisms and relating them to inflammation is of interest. The objective of the study was to identify DP specifically associated with intakes of nutrients potentially involved in inflammatory processes in a middle-aged population and investigate long-term associations between these DP and C-reactive protein (CRP) status assessed several years later. Subjects included in the Supplementation in Vitamins and Mineral Antioxidants 2 cohort study, having available data on dietary assessment carried out in 1994–5 and CRP measurement in 2007–9, were included in the analysis. DP were extracted with reduced rank regression (RRR), using antioxidant micronutrients and PUFA as response variables. Associations between CRP measurements >3 mg/l and extracted DP were then examined with logistic regression models providing OR and 95 % CI. A total of 2031 subjects (53·2 % women, mean follow-up duration: 12·5 years) were included in the analyses. Of the four extracted DP, a DP with high loading values of vegetables and vegetable oils, leading to high intakes of antioxidant micronutrients and essential fatty acids, was significantly and negatively associated with risk of elevated CRP (OR 0·88; 95 % CI 0·78, 0·98). Conversely, a DP reflecting a high n-6:n-3 fatty acid intake ratio was positively and significantly associated with elevated CRP (adjusted OR 1·15; 95 % CI 1·00, 1·32). DP extracted with RRR provide support for further exploration of relationships between dietary behaviour and inflammation.

Summary
Introduction
Residential care has been the mainstay of long-term care delivery systems in industrialized countries for decades. However, changes in acute care financing; individuals' preferences for remaining in the community; and the ageing of the elderly population mean that individuals with increasing frailty and impairments occupy these long-term care facilities. Most long-term care systems have evolved idiosyncratically as countries have faced different demographic imperatives and responded to different regulatory and medical-care systems. The need to characterize the needs of the population of long-term care users and the types and quality of services they receive has come to the forefront as the acuity of long-term care facilities has increased and as countries attempt to rebalance these budgets in order to provide more community support.
This chapter describes the development of a comprehensive clinical and functional assessment instrument – the nursing home Resident Assessment Instrument (RAI), more commonly known as the Minimum Data Set (MDS). This was designed in the United States on the basis that the proper provision of the complex care needed by frail older persons is predicated upon a comprehensive clinical assessment and it is the absence of such that underlies deficient quality of care. Originally intended as a clinical care planning tool, this minimum set of clinical and demographic data on all nursing home residents has been adapted as a vehicle for determining payment levels and to monitor the quality of care.

We report the growth of silicon nanowires (SiNWs) by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) with several catalysts. We performed low temperature photoluminescence (PL) experiments on as-grown SiNWs for the following catalysts: Au, Cu, TiSi, PdSi and PtSi. Nanowires are chemically treated with an aqua regia solution to remove the catalyst droplets, this step is followed by a thermal oxidation process. We compared the PL of as-grown and processed SiNWs for each catalyst.

Background
Some studies have shown the presence of psychopathological disorders in transient global amnesia.
AimsTo determine whether transient global amnesia is associated with psychopathological disorders and to assess the influence of these psychopathological disorders on memory impairments.
MethodLevels of anxiety and depression before and during transient global amnesia were rated. Memory performances were assessed by means of original episodic memory tasks and working memory tasks. These data were collected in 17 individuals observed during the very acute phase, 18 individuals examined in the peri-acute phase and 26 controls.
ResultsDuring the acute phase, participants with transient global amnesia displayed a higher level of anxiety and a more depressed mood than controls. An alteration of emotional state, as measured by the Adjective Mood Scale, was correlated with deficits in anterograde memory.
ConclusionsTransient global amnesia comprises sudden changes in people's emotional state, which has a major impact on and interacts with episodic memory impairment.

The aims of the present study were first to compare the amino acid dilution method performed using labelled animals with that using labelled diets, and second to determine real digestibilities and total ileal endogenous losses of N and amino acids. Two diets containing pea cultivars (Solara and Amino) and a protein-free diet were compared in a 3 × 3 Latin-square experiment. The three pigs were each prepared with an ileo-rectal anastomosis and were continuously infused with [1-13C]leucine. For each cultivar, 15N-labelled and unlabelled diets were formulated. The real digestibility and endogenous losses of leucine were higher when obtained by labelling the pig than by labelling the foodstuff. This was due either to the inadequate estimation of the endogenous protein enrichment in the first case or to the importance of dietary N recycling in the second case. However, in both cases the ileal endogenous losses of N and amino acids were higher than the basal losses determined with the protein-free diet. There were significant differences between the two pea cultivars in terms of phenylalanine and leucine when measured with labelled diets. It is suggested that, although ileal endogenous losses may be underestimated, using labelled feedstuffs is of great interest due to the direct estimation of the individual amounts of amino acids.
